Graining vs/and Pasture

Help Support CattleToday:

I agree to feed more. The suggested supplement rations is .01-.03 %. Using the lowest numbers in this equation .01x400 lbs is 4lbs of feed. 1.5 lbs of feed is just wasting money. If you want to "treat" or food train your cattle you can w/ square hay etc. What the feed is going to add is energy. It takes energy to grow. Your growing for a purpose so you want to stay on track. Why play around? Give em the feed or don't. Save that money and buy hay for when its time to feed em.

1.5#s/head/day is nothing more than just a treat. Look at the bcs and let that determine if you need to suppliment them with more.

Corn grain starch is an issue over 0.3% body weight per day
but low/no starch byproducts like DDG are usually supplemented at 0.5 to 1.0%
