I've got a 14 year old cow - consistently produces the best calves. She's looking pretty ragged this year - having trouble keeping body condition even on fresh pasture. Will graining help or is a higher quality hay a more effective means of keeping her bcs score up? Wondering if it's the teeth that give out or the ability to digest. She sure seems to be up and eating plenty enough to stay thick. She's been wormed too. She did get bred again and I'd like to at least get one more calf out of her.

The only way to tell if it's her teeth is to look at them. I think that cows as they get a few years on them just don;t have the "bloom of youth" no matter how good their teeth are.

Given the fact that she produces the best calves, I would seriously consider doing both - she has earned it.

Have you put her in the chute and checked her teeth? You probably want to consider doing that, as it is the only way you will know.

I'd check her teeth, and go from there.
