I am new to Cattle I have 2 Black Angus Steers on Tall Fescue they are about 500lbs. I plan to raise them for personal beef and have them dry aged. I have them on cracked corn right now. My question is If you were trying to produce the best meat posible without hormones what feed mixture would be the best? I don't mind spending more to put the best steak on the table thanks

By hormone free one means no added hormones.
The animals make their own hormones, but this is perfectly alright.
 
Thanks guys I ended up going to my feed store and had a talk with one the owners he recomended 2 feeds to me that he mills daily a Bull and Steer feed and a feed that he sells for show Cattle I was thinking about alternating in 500 pound increments is it good to alternate feed or stick with one?

If it's doing what you want I'd stick with one and if it's a sweet textured feed I wouldn't buy over a few bags at a time or it will dry out quickly. Pelleted feed are a crap shoot as to how much grain is really in the feed. The show feed would probably be beyond my budget.

Meat from beef CAN NOT be without hormones.
 
Ok now you guys have me thinking why should I add growth hormones to the steers agian I am new to raising beef these are my first two i have ever raised and I really appricaite this forum of experts helping me do the best I can
 
I'm not suggesting you should or shouldn't use growth hormones. I just wanted you to be aware of the fact that meat from beef will not be without hormones.
