GPS Auto Steer

Spraying season is right around corner. I have been pretty happy with the GPS app and iPAD deal but thinking about trying the auto steer. Whats the best deal out there for an older tractor? 2010 JD 5083E. Thanks in advance!

I use this, it will fit on about anything. I like it, but it’s expensive. Although I believe it might be the cheapest autosteer option.

I've had the Trimble EZ guide 250 forever and it works for me. Added the autosteer last year and used it to do some planting. It was much better than I expected. You might try this site https://www.usedprecisionag.com/product-category/base-stations/
I bought a used autosteer setup from him really reasonable. He's a little hard to catch and doesn't update the site all the time though.

You will need the antenna upgrade to use autosteer and they add the cost.

I’ve gotta ask because I’m curious. There’s a couple ponds and several trees on a property. How do you exclude those, so that it steers around?

We were using the Trimble 750 with easy steer. (It’s for sale!)
Bro in law is all into ag open gps. So he set that up for us. Has rtk and integrated steering. Mostly works really well. Like the ‘every other’ pass feature and it does well with auto turn at the headlands.

I’ve gotta ask because I’m curious. There’s a couple ponds and several trees on a property. How do you exclude those, so that it steers around?

You drive around the object the first time maually and then that path is saved and repeats the course. You can also save fields so you only do that once. Once a field is saved the same course will be followed everytime you use that field. Mine is pretty basic but has 5 or 6 different modes to use. I like it because if you leave for the day the gps remembers were you left off.

Basically you set the width of your implement and make one pass. After that the GPS pops lines on the screen for every other pass to be made. It's nice when you have tight turns at the end because you can skip a row or two and and come back to them without guessing.
