Is it really so bad? Our government is too big, and this is not a smart way to downsize, but it does need to shrink.

Well, I guess if Obama was right when he said " knowone would have anything without the government" we will all be loseing everything we have? :lol:
 
It would be nice if the shutdown last for years. I was hoping the IRS would be shutdown. Everyone that's working while the government is shutdown shouldn't have to pay any taxes on what they earned. No service no tax.

I didn't run the numbers- but if thats all the people that are getting laid off-- it doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

I have heard about conservation districts that are co-located with NRCS getting locked out. The local district employees are not federal employees but beings as it is a federal office which is shut down they are locked out. I think most of them took things home yesterday so they could work at home. So even though they have a key to the door and pay rent for their office space they are not supposed to be there. I really think it is the feds throwing around what little weight that they can.

You can bet your a$$ every little sewer plant in the country is dumping. (Ever notice how they're always located by a creek or river?) :lol2:

I don't wish tough times on anyone, but when the XL pipeline is approved, the illegal blockage of off shore drilling is lifted, and when the EPA with unregulated regulations that has killed millions of jobs is roped in, and the job killing "affordable" health care is repealed, I'll find a little sympathy. Until then, it is hard to feel more for their crunch than the 25% of the private sector.

One source says around 880,000 federal employees are off work today. They aren't laid off and they'll eventually get paid for taking the day off. Those employees are deemed "not essential". That should tell us something.

The tone of this debate is as nasty as I've seen it. The Democrat leadership and talking heads voices have gone up about two octaves lambasting the Tea Party. But, that's politics. Harry Truman said "If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog."

The neighbor's rooster crowed this morning, so I guess he isn't on the federal payroll--or he's essential.

I'd hope all law enforcement would be shutdown also. Go back to the old west.

Let the people level the playing field themselves. Isn't that what we did 230+ years ago?
