Well, I got my calves all sold, luckily I didn't ship myself since I blew the tranny on my truck on the way to the sale (just to watch)

here are the results

1 cow/calf pair (4 day old calf), 1740 lbs total, $1085
1 10 year old cow with a limp, 870 lbs, $.58/lb
3 steers, 605 avg, 1.52
4 steers, 683 avg, 1.47
1 steer, 435, 1.77
1 bull calf, 695 lb, 1.39
2 heifers, 653 avg, 1.38
2 heifers, 555 avg, 1.47
3 heifers, 475 avg, 1.52

I don't think I can complain... unfortunatly I didn't make it to the sale in time to take notes and compare how we did compared to others, but last year we were in the top 5% of our weight classes
 
I must've typoed there, she was about 1100 lbs, which is still light for once of our cows, the cow of the cow/calf pair was 1600 lbs (a fat pig), but a few others of our cows are 1800, they're mostly shorthorns

she was a saler/hereford... but she was prolapsing for a long time after calving, so we weaned the calf early, then she stopped prolapsing, but she just was so skinny and her stomach must have shrunk as well since she didn't have a good appetite... she paid for the shipping for the rest of the calves... we kinda got raped by the guy.. $650 for a 3 hour trip.. not using him again!
 
Yikes ! That is a bit much, going rate is usually 150 and hour.

I got screwed this fall too, he charged me 685 for 3 hours of work and one of those hours was spent sitting in a road closure due to an accident, which he was told not to take that highway to begin with. Still p@ssed off about ,was not my reg guy and got bullied into using him. Never again, may tell my straw guy to stuff it as well because of that crap. :mad:
 
we kept 4... 1, 6, 8, and 11... they're still on the teat for another month and a half or so, they might as well grow a bit more... they're also away from any bulls now... Oh, and I also have my feeder steer with them, but he's weaned... I keep wanting to cut a steak out of him, he looks good... I figure by next fall he should be about 1300 lbs... he's more than halfway there now at 750 (210 days)


Our guy was sporting a nice new dodge 550 4x4... wonder who was paying for that!.. How many did you have to ship Hillsdown?
 
That was for hauling straw, I haven't shipped calves yet. They are being preconditioned right now.

I had to get my second cut off my hay field so I can spread manure ,and for 2 hours work and 2 trucks it was almost $600.00 .. Yikes, just been a crazy year . So much for calf prices being high, our input costs are ridiculous now.
