Phone rang at 4am today. It was my mom. She's been pocket dialing me a lot lately, so I ignored it. A few minutes later my dad called, so I knew it was not good. Turns out my moms 2004 Chevy trailblazer caught fire. Burned up the front of the house they're renting, burned her truck to the frame, and my dads worked truck parked right next to it. House is livable, trucks are gone. Fire was so hot it melted glass, and burned a hole in the engine block. Luckily, and a miracle, no one was hurt. Dad lost some equipment in his truck. Fire marshall said it was electrical, but took samples for the lab. He had his own 2003 trailblazer do the same thing he said. No recalls out for the issue. Dad already called chevy corporate, insurance is rolling, and they still gotta call NTSB.
Poor mom and dad, they just lost their house to the economy, and now this.seems they can't get a break.

I was doing some snooping as procrastination is sitting on my shoulder today and came across this complaint ,might be helpful.

THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL IN THE CAR AND THEN THE HIGH SETTING ON THE AIR FAN SPEED STOPPED WORKING. THEN ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE SECOND TO HIGHEST SPEED STOPPED WORKING ALSO. I OPENED MY GLOVE WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND THEN THE HIGHEST SETTING STARTED WORKING AGAIN, THEN STOPPED WORKING A FEW MINUTES LATER. I LOOKED IN THE DASH BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A CONNECTOR FOR THE FAN MOTOR CONTROLLER WAS HEATING UP AND STARTED MELTING. I CHECKED THE CONNECTION AND INSIDE THE CONNECTOR WAS BURNT AND BLACKENED. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS ABOUT MY 2006 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAIZER. THEY SETUP A APPOINTMENT AT THE NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALER AND HAD IT CHECKED. THEY FOUND THAT THE FAN MOTOR CONNECTOR WAS BAD AND THAT THE FAN MOTOR CONTROLLER WAS BAD ALSO, THEY CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS AND TOLD THEM IT WASN'T A DEFECT AND IT WAS NOT A SAFETY HAZARD. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE CONNECTOR ALMOST CATCHING FIRE IS NOT A FIRE HAZZARD OR A DEFECT. THEY WANTED TO REPLACE THE CONNECTOR AND THE MOTOR CONTROLLER. I DENIED THE SERVICE BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $365.00 TO DO SO. WHEN I FOUND THE PARTS ELSEWHERE FOR $75.00 AND IM GOING TO DO THE REPAIRS MYSELF. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE BURNT CONNETOR AND FAN MOTOR CONTROLLER. I WILL BE REPAIRING THE ISSUE ONCE THE PARTS ARE DELIVERED. I AM ALSO EXPIRIENCING THE FUEL LEVEL PROBLEM ALSO , THE FUEL GUAGE SAYS ITS EMPTY WHEN I FILL IT UP.

Thanks HD, and everyone. Dad has always been a chevy man. I'm a ford fan. His chevy burned up, so he's borrowing my mother in laws truck until they get rentals lined up...guess what it is.....a Ford. He's really grumpy right now!lol

Hillsdown, can you tell me where you found the complaint you posted. My wife's 2006 GMC Envoy has those exact same problems, no high speed on fan, and faulty fuel gauge reading. Luckily no burning smell yet.

Looks like I need to dig into this a little more.

Hope your family's luck turns for the better soon Hooknline.
