Hey guys,
I was able to lease 20 acres the other day and I had hoped to put a few cattle on it. I have been in the horse and hay business my entire life however this will be my first experience with cattle. The 20 acres is all good pasture and has a GREAT fence around it as well as a creek running down one side. I live in middle TN so we normally can keep 1 head per 2 acres so I thought I would get about 10 head of cattle. A guy down the road from me has told a friend of mine that he takes calves for other people and keeps them so many months and then gets paid per pound that they gain while he was keeping them. I thought this might suit me for the first year to see how the lease turned out before I make my own purchase. Can you guys give me a little info as to how that works and what prices are normally per pound? Thanks for your help.
