AI cows beginning to calf now...

good news...1 nice bull
bad news....1 twin sister...

cow calved a week and a half early...waiting for Feb. 7... all others springing...
 
Looks like you will have a freezer full,not what you wanted but that is a bright side.

Why is that bad news? Granted, you don't have a replacement, but it's very difficult to tell if they are replacement quality at birth anyway. She'll be good eating for someone, both of them are alive, plus you got a bonus of an extra calf. First cow to calve, and you're already ahead of the game - you can't beat that! ;-)

I agree......

if the bull calf is truly a good one......

after a couple of days pull the heifer and raise it on a bottle and the bull calf will get the full benefit of mama and the opportunity to demonstrate any superiority.

then if you lose a calf you have a replacement to put on that cow.
