We had our annual state sale on Saturday, Fall Harvest, at Springfield Livestock Marketing Center. There were 78 head consigned and sold. Some good stuff for great prices. We are proud to say we had the high selling animal, a spring bred heifer, for $5750. She is AI bred to calve April 1st. Our middle daughter showed her all this year, and sold her. Our oldest daughter sold her spring bred show heifer also, due in March to Uno Mas (AI bred), for $3750. And we sold a good brockle face bull for $3500 (he was 11 months old). We are very blessed, and thankful for what we got!

Joplin had a huge commercial bred cow/heifer sale the night before, and the average price we were told, was $2350.

Looks like you did well. Had a buddy that was going to make the trip for that bull but he ended up in Oklahoma with his son roping.

He was quite popular. There were 21 Bulls that sold for an average of $2800. We had the youngest bull in the sale, and were a bit concerned that our bull would get hit hard for that. There are only 4 Bulls that sold higher than our bull, so we were happy with that. The bulls were the bargain, with many going for 2k or less, way under market for 18 month old bulls.

Man that is sure cheap enough for 18 month bulls. Can you wager a guess on why they were cheaper? Quality or just the uncertainty of the cattle market? I can't find quality yearlings for much less than $3500. Lots of cheaper bulls out there but quality is the key word.

Quality is the key word. I am heavy with a knife, probably more than most. My standards are higher. However, there were some really good bulls that were cheap! I think the reason is we had too many bulls for this time of year. Not a ton of folks looking for a bull at this point. Here is a link to the sale summary, with averages and such...
