What is it with red bulls with gold nose rings and being inside a hay ring. Mine did that too years ago, except he moved it next to the electric fence, served him right!

He loves playing with the hay rings. Last summer he pushed one about 1/8 of a mile, and into the pond. LOL

What is the purpose of the nose ring? Down here they would run a mesquite limb through it and yank their nose off. But I am starting to see more boys with nose Rings down here. Ain't figured that one out yet either. Is it something sexual?

We put a nose ring in the nose of a less-than-cooperative bull calf. He melted after that.

I'll answer with a question...how many bulls have you seen that you are able to go catch without a rope, ring, or head chute and load into a trailer? :lol2:

It's a good investment Named'em Tamed'em, but not as good as halter broke, but still need a little training when you put them in (catch them a couple times by it so they learn a thing or two), but it will stop any hardheadedness, or bulling.

I agree. We only ring them in two cases;
What was mentioned above (attitude adjustment), or if they were shown. All bulls shown out here need a ring by the time they are a year old. Some I hate putting a ring in because they are just good mannered, easy going boys that do not need them (halter broke). But the rules are the rules. The yearling we just sold in our sale yesterday did not have one, but he was not shown. He did not need one.

we dont have but a few inches on the ground but it melted all day as it still snowed fairly hard i know we had closer to 4 inches at 9 this morning going to be a mess is all i know and we start calving tomorrow but i am hoping they dont start for a few days

For us, by 10 months. Since the rules are a year, and we want them used to them by show day. You can put them in any age bull, it is kind of like getting your ears pierced. The ring has a sharp blade on the end that you poke through the membrane between the nostrils. Then you just close it and put the little screw in it. Once, we put a ring that was too big in a young bull, so we tried to get it out and replace it. We had to cut it out with bolt cutters because the screw would not back out to open and remove. Oh well!

As far as snow, we got about 2 inches down her in the SW corner of Missouri. The worst part of it was the hard blowing wind!!!! Most of it melted by dark-fall. We are hoping for warmer temps this week so we can grow some grass... only a few bales of hay left! :shock:

Gberry, they get put in in june when the vet comes to do health papers on the show animals, so about 8-10 months old. Know a guy that put one in a onnery Char bull that was 2 years old...didn't help much, but he had something to grab in emergencies.

As for the snow we are at 4" now and still snowing, and the wind has started up...time to get the old 3/4 ton out to do some driftin!
