Can anyone suggest an easy calving Hereford bull to AI breed to a hereford heifer we recently bought. (first hereford in 16 years, lost track of the breeding and bloodlines,) What are the good hereford bloodlines for calving ease, volume muscle and milk?

For polled bloodlines, Feltons bulls are hard to beat for the total package, including low birthweights. Feltons Domino 774 or Feltons Ozzie are excellent choices, even on heifers. For horned bloodlines, the Line One bulls from Holden, Cooper, Debter, Jamison are all good. CL 1 Domino 9126J would be excellent.
 
We'ev used 774 but the semen isn;t readily available. Limited Edition from Select Sires and Legend from Genex have thrown small calves that came easy and grew well.

I would like to recommend DR World Class 517 10H 100%. I have never had any problems with calving problems with calves sired by him. Give him a look up at http://www.hereford.org. :cboy:
 
I used Shular 5N of 9L on my best heifer , which will calve in March. His registration number is 42375618. He is not with a major bull service but semen is avalible.

World Class semen is available from Accelerated Genetics and should be a good choice as well. World Class was a product of V A Polytechnic inst and they have recently used the Schular 5N bull to sire some of their current calves.

Both have good calving ease and low birth weight epd's but world class has great milking and groweth. Schular has slightly better than average in milk and groweth but very good carcass epd's. I think that the carcass values are going to become very important in the near future.

It intersting to note that World Class was born in 1998 and he does not have very many calves registered from him. Schular is a 2003 bull and has not been avaliable long enough to have many progency.

Schular is listed in the 2005 Hereford AI book.

Asking for the name of a bull to breed to a heifer - with no info on the heifer - even a pic would help - is taking a chance in my opinion.

Be that as it may, there are so many good bulls out there you might simply send an email to a couple of breeding centres.

Genervations, Select Sires, Eastern Breeders, and so on. Plus the private breeder that belongs to the federal, State and Provincial organizations.

In fact if there are less than 200 suitable good bulls out there I would be really surprized. And that is only on the flat top side - go over to the HH side and you will easily double this number.

Camp, I have a good looking Barxton Giant 1 cow from the Ned & Jan Ward cowherd as a donor cow in my cowherd here in Virginia. She is a real eye catcher. :cboy:
 
Hill Creek sounds like you have quite the herd. You buy from some real respectable people. How big is your herd?

Right now we have around 25 Registered cows and over 100 embryos in recips. We do a lot more embryo work than anything. We have planned to do a lot of flushing this year and next. We are flushing some of the best cows out there. Our first Production sale is going to be in Fall 2008! I am very excited about that as well. :cboy:
 
Wow that is alot of embryo work, who did you breed to this year I tried Molar on one cow see how that will work I may have to try and get down there for your sale maybe I will have some money by then

What would you be interested in buying? If you need a new bull, were going to have a great selection and also a great set of cows with calves, heifers, flushes, and embryos. I hope that you can make it. It is on April 13th, 2006 at Noon. I hope to see you there. Look for a really tall guy that has glasses. If you can't find me, just ask one someone where you can find me.
