Going rate for pasture Rent

Help Support CattleToday:

Southern Wisconsin we pay anywhere from $30 to $60 per acre.

Told the wife to get ready for a roadtrip to all this cheap pasture! :D

We pay $20 per pair per month for irrigated pasture, land owner irrigates and provides water. Seems like I am always patching a little fence, although that should be land owners responsibility. Have paid as much as $25 when things got real dry and everyone was short, it is to much but didn't want to sell the cows. Even at $20 the grass had better be good and the place needs to run at least 20 pair for the summer to make it worthwhile. I have a friend who doesn't pay over $10/pair/month, sometimes free, but he has groups of 2-5 pair scattered over small pastures over 30 miles away and spends all summer changing water and fixing fence, moving cows. He runs almost 75 pair this way, and I'll admit he makes me and my rental bills look like a fool. 8)
