Local police officer was killed tonight in the line of duty. Details haven't been released but it was gang related and the suspect shot and killed the officer. This in a little town with a population of 5500. I said a while back in another post that it would get worse before it gets better. No respect for the law. Bet it doesn't make CNN news either.

In the past 8 years, a person would be safer in Iraq or Afghanistan then you would have been in Chicago and that too doesn't get any media attention either. In the first two weeks of August, there have been 34 shot and killed, and 151 shot and wounded. An ape gets blasted in a zoo after some dumb broad lets her kid drop into the pen and that's all you hear for 3 weeks. 151 people get shot by their neighbors (if you can call them that) in the first two weeks of the month and no one raises an eyebrow. What a joke..

I heard about the policeman being shot while on duty last night. Checked this morning and see that he died. So very sorry. Yes, this has hit close to home. Our trips to Macon, Cordele, and Atlanta are always in the morning and early afternoon. No night trips now. Spent Wed. Night and Thursday in Atlanta, but was not out at night and only went to doctor appointments while there. Very hard to even find a decent place to eat. Fast food Wed. Made it Thurs. till we got way out of Atlanta heading south. We are not safe anywhere now. This is a terrible way to have to live.

PRELIMINARY report is that he responded to a 911 call and what shot immediately upon exiting his vehicle. Apparently called it in himself after being shot. Very sad. Shooter is still on the loose but according to local citizens they've got him cornered down the road from my house about 2 miles. I guess more details will emerge shortly.

Mrs Williamson, he used to work in Wilcox County. I don't know him personally, but I have met him. He just had a baby back a few months ago. Very sad.

Yeah my wife pouts when I tell her that she and the kids can't go somewhere bc I can't go. Maybe I'm over(whatever) but I can't help how I feel. Thugs look for "weak" prey. Or in this case, they "ambush" their prey. Just like animals. The law of the jungle.

I'm truly amazed at how nonchalant some folks are when it comes to the safety of one's self and family. YOU are the one responsible for the safety of yourself and your family. All this bad stuff we see and hear about is happening to someone, and I'm going to do everything within my powers to prevent it from happening to my family.
JMJ, if everyone took their safety and their families safety like we do, this country would be a safer place. IMO
PS, you still should be carrying when your working, even though it's a pain.

I can be in the windy city in about an hour and a half...and absolutely will not go anymore. Not to see the PBR, or a Cubs game, or a concert. Just isn't worth it to me. The criminals are armed well and the rest of us our sitting ducks, ripe for the picking since the communist state of Illinois is anti gun. Can't even protect yourself there. Nope. I won't go.

I agree completely. As we've discussed here before, most of us, myself included, have never been involved in a gunfight. I hope that I die without that changing. I have no desire to shoot it out with anyone. But I have been in enough tight spots to know that, given a chance to shoot back, I won't hesitate. Even when I played baseball I struck out every time swinging, not looking.

And Maybe I'm simple minded but I look at it like this. Anyone can shoot a rabbit without being scared, a Cape buffalo however, well it's a different ball game when the prey fights back and can easily kill you. I don't intend to be the rabbit if you know what I mean.

I'm gonna say it again. CB said in a post a while back..... that anarchy was another step towards destruction (sorry if I don't get that exactly right CB). And we are getting there fast. I hate this man lost his life for someone who, IMO, doesn't deserve to take another breath and is using up valuable oxygen that would be better used by a maggot.

They have finally released the name of the suspect. 24 year old black male. Don't know about past criminal history but I'm 99% sure he is a local. Thought they as him cornered this morning in Milan but they haven't officially released that info. Met 5 law enforcement vehicles just outside of Rhine when we were leaving church. It's just a matter of time before they catch up with him. Talked to a retired deputy just while ago and he said that as of right now it looks as if he had full intentions of killing the policeman from the beginning.

I just spent a few days in Iowa and walked through the State fair. As I crossed a street there was a cop directing traffic. I stopped and shook his hand and told him I appreciated what he did. As I walked away I told him to stay safe and watch his azz. He was dam near in tears.

I hope I don't cross the line here because I most am not certainly advocating taking the life of another human being unless there's no other way to save your own hide.

But when things like this happen, how do you expect a cop to act? They are scared the whole time they are on duty. Just because they've got a badge doesn't mean they're not human. They have fear just like any of us do. So when they encounter a thug that won't follow orders, too often it's shoot or be shot. Sometimes maybe they make the decision to shoot too soon, but then again if you make that decision too late.... You're shot up or dead. Sure you have a few bad cops but I admire 95% in the same way as I do a soldier.

They caught him early this AM in Nassau County Florida. Apparently at a traffic stop on US 1. More details will emerge but at least he's in custody. GBI did confirm that the office had a dash cam which supposedly captured the entire event. I hope they hang him by his neck if the evidence proves him guilty.
