Pretty sure I was going to have my a$$ in a sling over hay this year. It looked like I was going to be running short by at least 6 bales until the wife came in last night and said a guy at her church was offering some up for $25 a bale. Stuff had a freeze on it, then cut and baled and he basically said he wanted his money back for baling. I spoke up for 8 of them and I'll be grabbing them this afternoon. I sure feel better now.

Hay is slim picken in this part of the world. People would buy rice hay if they could find it.
I was at the feed store this morning, the phone never stopped ringing people looking for hay. Manager said he was getting calls from as far north as Dallas.

I bought 2 semis worth earlier. Now that we’re moving, I won’t need most of them and sell8ng them for 5 bucks cheaper than i paid.

Lots of hay around here, but it sure isn't $25/bale. Feedstore guy has a place in the Trinity bottom he was able to get baled twice and has it for $65/roll. 4x5 rolls at that....bahia bermuda mix. Got it stacked 3 high by his feedstore but it isn't covered.
((I got some 2016 hay from him last year at $40/roll and it was actually pretty good hay all things considered.)

That sounds like one heck of a business plan to me, maybe you can make it up in quantity.

For what it's worth I got them home. They are pretty light 4x5's and the best I can say is they are probably better than stalks. Had a buddy that was thinking about buying some but backed out when he saw them. He runs a raw milk dairy and didn't think his cows would touch it as he can't feed syrup because of the milk. I figure since I'm running two hay rings I'll put one good and one of these out to force them to eat it until it's gone.

Cows are like cats when it comes to feed....finicky. I’d feed a good bale and a bad bale first then the good stuff later. It stinks that we have to get them through the bad years but what do you do.

I'll start feeding hay in the next few days. Everything is dead now and I don't want them to eat what's left down to dirt.

Pretty place. Did you mow it with a lawn mower as it looks like you can see the mower tracks?

Since 2011, we keep at least a years worth on hand before baling. Very hard to do because on good hay years you forget about the bad ones.. Feeling pretty good that we're a year ahead.
