getting into showing

I am just wondering how to get involved in showing cattle. do the cattle being showed have to be registered pure breeds or can any cattle be shown? I am wanting to get into showing some cattle but have absolutely no idea what is involved. any links or books that might help me in figuring it all out would be greatly appreciated.

Most youth shows allow commercial classes of cattle - both females & steers.
