Every registered voter should vote. Patriots have given their life to afford us that right. Regardless of how you vote, it's important to exercise that right.

I personally would support some kind of consequence for any registered voter that did not vote, UNLESS they had documentation of a valid excuse. Maybe a monetary penalty. Or something of the sort. And any registered voter who doesn't vote shouldn't be entitled to any government program or benefit. Again, UNLESS they had a documented valid excuse.

I also wish we could do away with parties. Someone smarter than me may have a reason for why that wouldn't work. I think that eliminating parties would solve SOME problems and also dissolve some unproductive alliances. But then again, I'm simple minded. There may be a reason that this wouldn't work.

One thing is for sure. This country is pretty divided, partly because of too much media. I wish people would support what's best for the country as a whole first. And then do what's best for themselves second. I think if you get the first part right the second will likely fall into place.

But that's just my opinion. GO VOTE.
You were the only incumbent that wasn't in the top spot for their race. Any idea why?

I don't give two hoots which side you're on as long as you do right by the people. Too many folks are making a career out of being a politician, and that only benefits them.

It's a great job sure beats working for yourself.

An hour left here.....hope everyone that was qualified exercised their right and responsibility today....and did so responsibly.

I voted and had every intention of doing something I've never done before, a straight ticket. In the end I just couldn't do it.

Was pretty surprised to learn my birthdate in the system didn't match my drivers or CC license, most likely a typo from the county, but was assured my vote would still count. Of course that means quality time at the County Clerk to get it fixed.

Hubby wanted to vote before his dentist appt and busted outta the house, anticipating long lines, which was accurate & naturally saw pretty much everyone he knew. As he laid down in the dentist chair he noticed in horror his pants were unzipped. Patriotic Creeper! Bless his heart, he's vowing he's not gonna leave this ranch for at least another month.  :hide:

Voted here. Left one blank-a local running for something- I won't/can't support him.
School districts have gone insane here. Two wanting bond money. One for a new school the other wanting improvements like escape windows in classrooms and ventilation for fresher air for better classrooms. County wanting a 2% sales tax increase for road improvements. They had money to add a $5 million addition to the court house but need a tax increase for roads.

I don't know why. Unless it is because that office is non partisan so maybe because of that they reverted back to alphabetical order. Idk? I sure would have liked to be first on the ballot I know that.

JmJ, good post, and dont think that your simple minded, unless simple minded means common sense, and you're spot on about the media.

Election Results of Interest:

What is going on with O'Rourke giving Cruz a tough race in Texas?

A Democratic Governor in Kansas!!! I didn't think that was possible!

The most powerful institution in Government is Democratic - the People's House. The most powerful budget institution. Plus, tremendous investigative powers. It is going to be entertaining. If Democrats are smart, they will dump Pelosi. Going to be interesting.

They're trying to add another's elementary school here. We're at absolute capacity, but I think the Halloween costumed idiots screwed that up.

With the interwebs, I think we need to reconsider how we govern (maybe a chance for more direct-participation by voters); also consider requiring full disclosure as to opinion pieces versus (attempts at) factual pieces, with fines for misrepresentation. Also, more civics and critical thinking taught in schools. No one should be discounting everything "the media" says; no one should be believing everything "the media" says.

Texas has had a wave of outsiders move in in the last 5 yrs or so and I guess they don't share our values. The DFW area is growing so fast new neighborhoods were closing on houses faster than people could decide on which half built house they wanted. I'm really not sure why people choose to leave a place because they don't like the way it's being ran but try to make the new place the same as the old. Outside influences played a big role too.

Demographics drives elections. IMO demographics in the US and the entire world are going to be interesting to watch in this century. The population is becoming more cosmopolitan. Races are melting into one. The dynamics over time are going to favor socialism whether you like it or not. My advice is not to have a heart attack over things you cannot change.

Just tore up Article 1 with that statement.
It's freedom of the press your supposed to be smart enough to wade through the propaganda. The father of the constitution Madison wrote Article 1 for just that way of thinking over 225 years ago.

[sarcasm]That old outdated piece of paper?
Pshaw!....
It, Magna Carta and Code of Hammurabi should have been burned, banned, forgotten and outlawed centuries ago.....
[/sarcasm]

Yep you got freedom of the press and speech over religion.
Madison a Presbyterian was upset Methodist and Baptist ministers were being jailed for what they were printing in flyers and spoke from the pulpit. There was another revolution going on called the Great Awakening. Madison thought this a terrible injustice even if not agreeing with their theology.
That's the reason they are all rolled into one.

Unless said "journalistic" piece is riddled with falsehoods. Then it becomes up for libel challenges, which can be difficult to prove in court depending on what is being said. But I do have a problem with some stuff that is hitting the internet, such as Ted Cruz's father being involved with the Kennedy assassination. There should be a way to filter out that stuff. However, I can see that becoming a "freedom of speech" issue vs. "freedom of the press" issue as long as it's never purported to be spread by a "news" agency.
