If you could design the most eye-appealing (to you) cow to put into your pasture, what would it look like? Let's assume that she will consistently produce whatever is in demand in your area (such as solid black polled calves) regardless of the actual genetic combinations that would be required to make this cow--for example if you like the pattern of a skunk tail cow, let's assume that she will never pass on the skunk tail to any calves that you plan to sell.

Basically, what's a pattern or color you've always enjoyed looking at, but never put into your pasture because it would produce discounted calves?

Personally, I think I would go with the chocolate-simmy color, with a blaze face, and massive texas longhorn-style horns. Then maybe throw on some tiger stripes for good measure.

I think my favorite colorful cow would be a longhorn with shorthorn coming in a close second. I love seeing the shorthorn show in Denver some really pretty cows and bulls.

I always loved brindled cows, especially Jersey influenced ones. I once saw a beautiful dark cherry red brindled cow with a full belted, she was a beautiful cow.

Love (!) the look of the Pinz...but, there are several reasons I picked the Aubrac, and one of them is the way they look. I just love them; very aesthetically pleasing (to my wife and I, if nobody else).

Seeing a field of belties is pretty fun ... as is seeing Longhorns with those huge horn spans.

I'd love to have a herd of Gyr and Longhorns . Enjoy looking at the Bulls and cows and Calving time would always be interesting seeing what the markings would be on the calves.

There's so many different ones I'd like to have.... but if I had to choose just one favorite I'd love some Speckle Park cows.

We have one herd that's entirely blue roan and blue roan baldy cows, but we sold all the older ones off this year so there is only 15 left. I do like some Longhorns and also the big spotted and roan looking Beefmasters.

I had a cow years ago I had bought as a baby calf from a dairy. Out of a Holstein cow and a red Brahman bull, and she was a blue roan. That was a nice combination with the Brahman characteristics.

In 1923 the Holstein Association commissioned a painting of the ideal Holstein cow for members to strive towards called
the True Type Holstein Cow. It was updated in the '70s and again in 2012.
I prefer the look of the original to the updated version, so that would be my choice.

The American Holstein Assoc scores members cattle on a 100 pt scale with the Ideal version being a perfect 100.
(Highest possible score for a 2 yr old is 89) With 80 being breed average for mature cows.
Excellent 90-100 Very Good 85-89 Good Plus 80-84 Good 75-79 Fair 70-74 Poor 69 or less
To date Ex-97 is the highest score ever given to any cow or bull evaluated.

Has any beef breed association ever endorsed a picture or model of the ideal cow or ideal bull to represent their breed?

I wish all breed associations had an official scoring system for their cattle, so I could immediately know what the parentage
looked like just by viewing a pedigree. Maybe by 2023 beef associations will catch up to where dairy was 100 yrs ago.
But I doubt it.

Gert x a really good hereford makes really pretty cows. 3/8 5/8 brafords can be really, really pretty cattle as well but I don't like the F-1's.

For me... a Simm cow of the 1900's... with horns is a pretty fine looking animal... on the other end I do like a nice Longhorn too for yard art...

That said.. I also like my cows the way they are, I have paid attention to what I consider 'eye appeal'

Sadly I think I have a few of all the breeds you guys have listed, when I started I bought my first cows 5yrs ago I bought what ever I found cheap. Have sold all the longhorns except one. 1 white parks, a Hereford, couple red roan and a blue roan out of a shorthorn bull I got cheap. Rest are black and charolais

My ideal cow? Brindle, black, and tiger striped 3/8-1/2 Brahman crosses. Nobody said we had to handle them right?lol. That's why I don't own many Brahman, but I do like their look and maternal side.
