Going to AI about 8 gert cows this month. I have been thinking about Chunk, Magnum, Sombrero , and Pusher. I would like to try some playboy or clarendon 740 but the 10 straw minimum doesn't make it worth it for me. What are some of the bulls you guys would recommend.

Which Magnum are you talking about - 5 Bar E's, Welder Ranch's or CF Cattle Co.'s. I like Yogi (a Grizzly grandson) better than Grizzly. Sombrero and Pusher from Grandview Farms are allright.

Have you looked at TT Ervin from Circle A or 5 Bar E's Integrity (look on Get Gerts on Facebook for pictures). I personally saw SJ High Roller at Champion Genetics last week and I am planning to use him. I understand that sexed semen maybe available soon on High Roller.
 
Look in the last two issues of the Santa Gertrudis USA for pictures of High Roller. Finding a picture of Grizzly is going to be a challenge as he was born in the fall of 1993.

I will look in my back issues. I looked at Yogi. He is a nice looking bull. I wonder if any one in my area would have semen? I am needing to add a some thickness. I like the way MC Earl looks, but I don't know about how well his calves sale. It is interesting to me the low maternal numbers or milk numbers on a lot of gerts. Thanks.

One of my cows that continually raised the heavest weaning calves year in an year out had negative milk numbers. If you need milk, then select bulls with above breed average milk numbers otherwise stay around breed average.

Yogi semen can be ordered from Bovine Elite in College Station.

The weaning and yearling epd's are pretty accurate. Most Gerts milk enough anyway. Too much milk makes cows hard to get rebred on time unless you feed better.
 
I have semen on a lot of different gert bulls. Apache poll is a real nice thick bull plus he is polled I have a lot of semen if interested.
 
Thanks. Grizzly looks longer to me and for older genetics his under line looks pretty good. Although, I do admit I am just learning all this.

I saw Grizzly back in the early 2000's at Cottonbranch Ranch. We was long but had a little too much set in hind legs for my liking. That is hard to breed out. I saw High Roller about two weeks ago at Champion Genetics in Canton, TX where they are collecting him. Very impressive bull. His depth of body deceives his length. He is longer than he appears.

High Roller is a Wavemaker son, but smoother shouldered than his sire.
