As someof you know im looking for a bull to keep heifrs out of. Any suggestions, as far as red or blackeither is ok so what bull(s)
would be best on my blk and bwf

Though your question is rather vague I assume your looking for a sire for breeding your cows to. If you inseminate it would be easy to select a purebred gelbvieh with good maternal characteristics. I have some excellent cows out of ABS's Moderator. You would be forfeiting a little on your steers if you fatten them out with him but I haven't had a bad heifer out of him. Now if you are looking for a herd sire select one that has a sire with good maternal traits coupled with a good dam. As far as red or black this past winter at the sale barn the reds and blacks are following the greys in price in Southern Indiana. But that is more due to the condition of the feeders that the color. I hope this helps you.

Mind me asking why Gelbvieh? I understand that they are generally good milkers but so are other breeds?

Unless you are close enough to sell him one of your wonder bulls why not respect the fact that this thread is not about Lim's. Randy and a few others who actually have some class seem to be able to do that.

If your cows are black (angus) or bwf (baldies ie Angus x hereford) I woud suggest either going back with a Hereford or an angus in order to more stabalize the genetics youre working with. then use the continental breeds- charolais, limo, gelbvieh, blonde, simm when your looking for maximum lbs out of your calf calf, not when your trying to make momma cows.

I know I hate generalities and platitudes as much as anyone but for a beginner seeking a new bull- these generatlities still hold pretty much true.
