Gelbvieh Bull Stats Question

I weighed and measured my yearling Gelbvieh bull today. He turns 1 yr. old next week. He is an Atlas 101N son. Here is his stats:

Yearling Weight = 1,166 lbs
Hip Height = 54"
Scrotal Circumference = 41 cm

The hip height bothers me as the charts show that he should be a 7 to 7+ frame score. This is a little big for my taste. How accurate are these charts for yearlings? This is the one I referenced www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/ansci/beef/as1091w.htm

I am happy with the scrotal and how the calf is shaping up and the muscle he is carrying. I think he will add muscle and weight to my calves.

I have about 5 different programs and spreadsheets for frame score calculations.

If you say he will be 12 month old next week and measures 54 inches all of the charts that I have all say about a 7.5 frame.

But even if he is, look at some of the bulls in the bull studs and I have seen several that as yearlings were a 6.5 + frame but as they matured many of them had a mature frame score of around 6.

What is is breeding?

CORRECTION: Scrotal circumference is 40 cm. I remeasured the string that I used and it was 40cm. When I measured it the first time I didn't notice the first cm mark missing from the magnetic ruler I have attached to the squeeze chute bars so I had measured the string from the 2nd cm mark.

cbcr, I hope you are right and he matures in the 6.5 to 7 range. Here is is breeding:

Hoss unless you REALLY know how to figure hip height you might not have got it right. Chances are he is an inch or even two shorter than you think. The best way to measure is not from the ground up but from the top down. Pu him in the chute and wire a board acrocc the top large enuf to cover the whole area of his hips. Then when he is standing real square place another flat board about 3 in wide and maybe an inch think and a foor long. Measure from the top board down to the bottom board making sure it's in the exact right place. Then deduct the thickness of the lower board. There are plenty of charts showing exactly where to place the bottom board.

The way I measured him was..... while he was in the squeeze chute I put a level across his back at the hips. When he was quite and standing still I leveled the level and marked the exact height with a paint marker on the bars of the squeeze at the bottom of the level. So I knew that that was the exact height of his back. I measured from that mark to the bottom of the squeeze where his feet were. I am not sure I understand what you are explaining about the second board. I will look it up on the net and see if there are some examples. I have to get him up again soon for a BSE so I will remeasure.

I also weighed my two In Focus heifers that I retained. They will also be a year old this month. One was 828 lbs and the other 867 lbs. They really turned on the growth the last few months. I am going to be AI'ing them both to a Danell Infusion son this summer.
