The geese have been heading north all night. I guess they didn;t here that we're supposed to have snow again tonight and tomorrow. Or maybe they just want to get ahead of it.

Humingbirds showed up here a couple days ago with frost on the ground.

We had 2 to 3 inches of snow a couple of days ago then temps in the 50's. Now weather fellar say 5 to 10 inches of snow tonight. With all the geese a flying and the fescue trying to grow a little it surely is getting close to spring. I hope!!

Geese are usually around here late February, early March. Last year, just a pair remained for what seemed like forever. They were hanging around the pond across the way for a long time. They were waiting eggs to hatch. There were two, and at first they were ugly, but that soon changed, Then they were gone.

I can't wait until the hummingbirds come back, which will probably be around the middle of April.

I'm wondering if any of these are the same ones that went north 10 days ago before the last really nasty weather and they turned around and went back south for a while.

The sandhill cranes were flying north on Saturday and the robins showed up on Sunday :banana: They have faith because we still have about 6 inches of snow on the ground!

Last couple of weeks spotted some huge flocks of geese headed North. Beginning to see bluebirds and thousands of Cackles are filling the trees. Girlfriend's peach trees have buds and have seen buds on Bradford pears, oaks and elms. Yesterday was 70 degrees and sunny, right now 36 degrees and cold rain with snow predicted for tonite and 25 degrees by morn. Next week supposed to be back to 70s.

Yup, tried boiling, baking, smoking, frying, and most every other way imaginable.

They STILL taste similar to an old boot. :lol:

Yup, tried boiling, baking, smoking, frying, and most every other way imaginable.

They STILL taste similar to an old boot. :lol:

Try roating them on a raised rack and the body cavity stuffed with apples. Even makes coot almost palatable, almost. But it sure works good with ducks, geese and old long beard toms. The toms are cooked in a oven bag, the others are open.

We cook the breasts in a baking bag, with white wine , onion soup mix and orange juice, makes great gravy. When it's done you take the goose out of the bag, drink the gravy, and suffocate yourself with the bag so you won't have to eat the goose.

Seriously most of the time we grind the goose breasts with pork butts and make sausage out of them. Makes pretty good sausage.

Cooked some Wood duck in front of the fireplace once though.

Screwed a hook underneath the mantle and tied a string from it to the duck. I would spin the duck on the string every once in awhile so that it cooked on all sides.

Took 8 hours and was OK.

I like that method. It would give me 8 hours to drink enough good canadian whiskey that I wouldn't care what it tasted like.
