I think one of my bulls has gone Brokeback Mountain on me! Turned "Elvis" out yesterday with about 30 open cows to do some socializing and all he wanted to do was talk to one of my other bulls in another field. Two fences and a 16' drive between them. The cows were across a field about 300 yards away and after about an hour I got tired of his bellerin' so I brought them up to the house and "introduced" them to Elvis. After they ate the grain I poured out for them and left, I had to run Elvis off the hill with a stick but he finally went to the herd. All was fine and dandy til I got home this afternoon and the sorry sucker was back up here at the house lounging around watching the bull out front while his girlfriends were all out grazing. So I got mad and turned another bull in with him. I let them fight it out for a half hour or so and then ran them off the hill to where the girls were. As soon as the new bull saw the cows he forgot about Elvis and went about his business. I tried to push Elvis up to the herd but he does everything he can to stay away from them and last time I checked he was standing out in the field about 100 yards away from everybody else. He's definately the low bull on the scrotum pole but I'm starting to think he might look good wrapped in white paper! Thought y'all might get a kick out of that!

This is the "Spring Bull Sale" season. Bring him to your local weekly auction and get on the ball and buy another herd bull. Quit fooling with him and loose part of a calf crop.

I've seen it happen with younger bulls that have only been around other bulls (feed tests, etc.), but usually once they get a smell of the cows, they know what to do. I think LA might be right.

I agree with both of you. I was planning on selling him this summer/fall anyways but if he don't straighten up he may go sooner.

I think Medic had one of those gay bulls awhile back...don't remember whatever became of that bull.

Happened to us. Bought two virgin bulls from a guy and they only had eyes for each other. We called him and let him know and he sent us two different ones.

I had a donkey like that. Stood at the fence gazing at the other males when there was a mare three feet away from him in heat just about drawing him a picture. We took to standing out there and monitoring his progress. He's try and miss. He'd try and then, uh, be less than at attention... He'd try the wrong end. (NO comments there!) I don't know if she got bred or not. It was comic donkey porn.

Why take a chance on missing his share of the calf crop. There's other bulls out there to be bought.
