The French have a long history in North Africa and the Middle East. That is one reason they have so many Muslim immigrants. It is hard to see how France will be able to contain, much less prevent, low tech terror w/o becoming a police state.

What's your definition of a police state Steve? In France you can't own a gun for self defense. So IMO France is already a police state. When the public can't protect themselves from evil or government you have no freedom.

Why are Asia's failures our problems? It has become the default position from the world to blame white Europeans/Americans and like total fools we accept the blame and responsibility.

Why fault the French for being good neighbors to those who did not deserve their charity.

The media will wring their hands, point accusatory fingers, and search for reasons why the French were not kind enough to their parasitic minority populations.

The Asian will use sh-t in his own food bowl. It is the culture from Bollywood to Beijing. That I where the blame lies, not with the Europeans who extended Christian charity to those who did not deserve charity.

Some think that it is Europe's payback for colonialism.

I think some Americans are over confident and culturally clueless -- and think they can fix anything.

Unfortunately, the terrorists do have guns, and they seem to prefer all the promises of martyrdom rather than French socialism.

Steve, colonial involvement by France was similar to our own foreign policy . The policy is dictated by who is on the inside and who is making what money. The novel Bel Ami by Guy de Maupassant is a story of how the business interests who owned the media crafted their message like a facebook persona. The "news" of the day was nothing more than a narrative to serve a specific set of interests, not unlike our news media today. Pretty funny book.

What it really boils down to is an unsustainable birth rate that has reached a tipping point. The desert countries of North Africa and Asia Minor cannot support their populations. Not enough land, water, and commerce. The big boys are still gonna rake in the cash while ordinary people get stuck with the consequences.

We have to be honest about the tremendous pull of political correctness, of which France is the birthplace. Portugal has an equally nasty colonial past yet isn't the magnet for Muslim violence.

And I'm proud to be an American, and believe that we can still fix anything. What's going on in this world and especially this country needs fixing. IMO

If it wasn't for our colonialism America Canada and Australia wouldn't exist the way that it does now! Us Europeans never took over the Middle East perhaps we should of and they may be like the rest of us now, I'd rather be in an economical dia straight than conflict.

Australia sometimes revels in their convict founders. But previous to 1776 - - the English convicts, Scots/Irish scrapers, and religious zealots were all sent to the Americas. Perhaps we do need to send some to the Middle East too?

I have spent some time in South America and have witnessed what the Spanish and the Portuguese governments left behind. I think we underrate the impact of the Magna Carta on today's (more successful) legal and property rights systems.
