Funeral Processions

So sorry for your loss.
If driving here people don't stop but slow down and let them pass. If I am walking I will stop and bow my head until it has passed, my Son has always done this and his friends thought he was strange, I've always been taught it was manners. My Gran always used to hold a button on her clothes and bow her head until they passed. apparently it is an old Victorian superstition....(It is bad luck to meet a funeral procession head on. If you see one approching, turn around. If this is unavoidable, hold on to a button until the funeral cortege passes.)

Chrisy when I was in the first grade at age 6 another kid warned me about the button thing. He said falure to comply would result in the death of your mother. I adhered to this for many years, as long as my mother lived.
Since the first grade you are the only other person I know of to have knowledge of this ritual.
So that makes three of us. You , me and Andrew,where ever he is.
Andrew's father was a party chief in the oil drilling industry and they moved around a lot. So he has been long gone.
The day he told me about the button thing he had on short blue pants and a blue shirt. I did not wear short pants and still do not unless for athletics. I include this information because I thought you would probably find it interesting.

Same here. Never knew any other way. I've been in that car right behind the hearse before and every little sign of respect I saw was greatly appreciated. Don't mind taking a few minutes to do the same for someone else.

I always heard you grab a button & hold it when you see or hear an ambulance, so your not the next to be in it. :tiphat: Just one them silly things like when you run a yellow light you tap the ceiling and make a wish. :lol2: When I was a kid I would wish for money, now that seems so silly. Now I gas it and wish the popo don't caught me! Durhurhur! :pretty: ;-)

Seems some people get away from home and think it is ok to act however they want. I've always said there is no problem with people doing right, the problem is what they think is right.

Very common here in Tennessee. We pull over on all roads with the exception of interstates. We do not go through a stop light even if green. The procession has the rightaway and will continue through a red light until the whole procession has passed. The city police escort the procession until it hits the city limits and the county mounties take over. A squad car in front and one at the rear. When the city police are arriving at the city limits the county deputies are standing at the side of their cars, hats off and heads bowed. The city police pull over, step out and do the same after turning it over to the county. They stand that way until the procession has passed. Even in the rain or snow. It has been that way for years and I hope it doesn't change.
