This may be a MikeC question, but, what is the difference between full french and purebred? Is the ff better?

The FF have not had any other genetics introduced to them.

When the Chars were brought here in the early 1900's there was a Hoof and Mouth restriction during those days. Only a few bulls made it in from Mexico and some Chars were bred up from those. Of course others have been introduced since.

The Char purebreds are 31/32 (> 97% pure) and up now.

Full French are still horned too.

Some like 'em some don't. Not for me to say which is best.

Some people like apple pie and some like peach. ;-)

If you take a look at most of the
purebred Charolais, you can easily see they have lost almost all physical characteristics of Charolais except for being white. French Charolais have much more mass, muscle, bone and a much better disposition. These type cattle are easier to manage and even to the commercial man, more profitable.

We feel like the best cattle are horned. The best proven sires are all horned bulls. We do use the polled influence thru some polled sons of the great horned bulls and they are considerably better than most. In a normal breeding season, we'll breed most of the horned cows to polled bulls and the polled cows to horned bulls. We usually produce yearly several truly outstanding polled Full French.

Those to quotes came from http://www.twjcharolais.com . Thought the quotes would be helpful though.

I'll throw the BS flag on Tom about disposition.

He also forgets to mention birthweights.

Full French don't have the exposive growth that some purebred Chars exhibit.

Everyone has an agenda........................

The only difference between FF and PB cattle is the purity. It is that simple as to which is better that is personal preference.
