Australian beef gets bad rep in Japan
According to Japanese newspapers, the head of Yoshinoya, a Japanese chain famous for its beef dishes, has derided the quality of Australian beef in the face of a continuing ban on U.S. beef imports. "We cannot sell expensive, bad-tasting beef bowls just to get over immediate problems," company president Syuji Abe said in an interview with the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, published this week. "We do not believe we can offer consistent quality for that many dishes using Australian or domestic beef," he said. The prolonged ban on U.S. beef imports has already led Yoshinoya to downgrade its profit forecasts twice.
