Title say it all.Just stopped after turning over 5900 hrs at 5900.2.It is mechanical and not digital.I assume it has a cable and will look for it but if it's okay is there anything beside replacing it? I know the older ones were bad about the inner gears wearing and stopping.
Hoping sky, jltrent,KennyT or someone will see this and can help me save some money.

If they are made close the same the cable will come from the dash to the left side of the motor. It goes into a housing that has a solid shaft about 4" long going straight down. It breaks where the shaft meets the flexible cable.

Thanks.First place I'll check. Plan on this tractor running when I can't run it any more. Hope so.My son says"Dad,you aren't ever going to be satisfied with anything else, anyway."Same with my old 5000 with ?000 hours on it and still runs like new.I even bought new steering links for it this year.Grandson is helping me now and wanted it a little more driver friendly.

If replacing the cable, get a wad of GL2 Moly grease and put it in the palm of your hand. Then lay the cable on it, close your fingers and pull the cable through it before installing.....Vinyl gloves are 5 bucks a hundred at HF. Grin.

If you have to go with a new gauge, I bought really nice gauge assemblies off ebay for my Ford 3000 and 3910 for $80 free shipping.

Is the tach still working? I've never seen a broken cable cause one to stop without the other. My 7610 got a rat's next right smack in the middle of the cable last year and bit the dust. Hardest part was fishing it by the fuel tank.

Messick's has the NH parts catalogs online, with parts diagrams and breakdowns. Maybe not the most user-friendly, but it's there if you can find it.

To last 5900 hours you did good and apparently shed kelp as the topic has been beat around from a fix standpoint pretty good. Usually what leads to the demise of these from a maintenance standpoint is moisture storing out in the big barn. The most import thing anybody can do for machinery is first oil and grease, second wash, wax and shed keep. I try to keep everything with a roof over it and washed, waxed at least yearly. When you see equipment for sale if appearance is good it will always sale for more.

I just ran out of wax and bought two more quarts to get through the year.

The 105 is for the older machinery and the 205 is for the newer machinery.

It's been under roof most of it's life here.We bought it with about 75 hours on it.It has, unfortunately, been wet more times than it should have and the face on the panel is beginning to peel some. The hour meter is analogue and not digital so I'm hoping a cable will fix it.Some of the older Fords were bad about breaking or the counter stopping. My 5000 had 1800 or so showing on it.We put a new proofmeter on it and it lasted to around 2600.That was years ago.The tach worked so we just kept the oil changed regularly knowing we didn't put over the limit of hour on in that time.
