I read this on University of Arkansas site and the part that surprised me was " Arkansas has good winter forages". I am curious on what winter forage they would be referring to?

state," Lusby said. "Arkansas has good winter forages and plenty of
cattle. And we have research and extension programs in animal health,
nutrition and genetics, and hay and forage to support beef producers
who want to start or expand stocker operations.

I am in the SW corner of the state. People around here will drill ryegrass and wheat during the fall. Some years it does better than others. Usually, there is very little benefit until late February/early March. I think they have a lot of fescue up in the northern part of the state. While there is not as much fescue down here, there is some. My place is mostly blackland and I have quite a bit of it. I have about twenty five acres of fescue that I fenced my cows off of a few weeks ago so that I can "stockpile" for this winter. I think I may try to strip graze it. Fescue can be a pain in the late spring and early summer because it tends to choke out my other grasses such as dallisgrass. I am currently trying to find the best way to optimize it rather than trying to fight it.
