My neighbor is still off work 3 months after trying to cut a cabbage palm leaning over his fence. Broken back, torn rotator cuff and bruised hip. Lucky to be alive.
Every time I get my chain saw out now I say to myself, be smart!

Melking like I tell anyone that has asked me for advice on chainsaws first thing I will tell them is be sure to wear safety equip. use your head and more importantly I tell alot people around here that have their grandpas saws with no chainbrake be extremely careful because if you get in a kick back situation chains gonna keep rolling and cut the S... out of you where if you use a more modern saw with a chainbrake it may cut you but not saw you. It is easier to stitch you up than fill in holes where the saw cut out of you. When I give estimates and people complain about pricing then say they will get their buddies together and they do it I tell them ok but im sure my estimate is cheaper than any ER bill they get probably.

Edit: If my employees are found operating a saw without all safety clothing/equipment that is a instant termination on spot. I have a 0 tolerance for not using safety equip.

Probably had cracked ribs before he hit the ground. That limb was huge and fell in a very predictable way. Poor guy must not have been sawing limbs long or he'd have seen that.

unfortunately common sense isn't something he could have purchased before sawing that limb. The guy holding the ladder was lucky he didn't get a saw to the head. I am sure his ribs were cracked before hitting the ground as well. I tell ya that few hundred bucks to remove the tree I bet seemed very worth it as he was falling to the earth.

He couldn't use his head it was too consumed with saving money. I bet whole time while up there he was thinking about money he saved. Probably saying ha poo poo on you mr tree service company wanting to charge me a few hundred bucks I guess I showed you... Then the limb showed him saving money is not always what you should be thinking about your safety is # 1.

Chainsaw and empty space between the ears most dangerous piece of equipment on the place.
Dealing with trees in the thicket is part of life. Almost every week you can read about a weekender
that has a place up here getting hurt in the paper.
Had one couple of months ago drown, pound spill pipe had plugged went in on the lake
side removed the debris and got sucked in the pipe.

I hate to admit it but I've almost had that happen except the limb caught one side of the ladder spinning it around but I didn't fall. I can't remember if I grabbed another limb or what but I do remember my Dad standing there giving me that look like.... you dumbass!

I wish the video ran a few seconds more. The guy holding the ladder is starting to throw up his arms like he is going to protect himself from the limb. He is backing up rather than stepping sideways to avoid the limb. He might very well be the one to really get hurt.

That would not be the whole solution to making the limb go the right way. But I am not going to give the solution because someone might read it here and go try to do it on their own.

A guy nicknamed "Q-Ball" was taped cutting a branch and you can kinda tell from the beginning that something's about to go wrong. He's reaching up from the very top of a ladder and leaning over to cut a branch that's barely within his reach.

The branch falls, but apparently decides that it's not going down alone.

"My coworker cuts down a tree and the tree is not very happy about it," Kurt Stepp, who posted the video to YouTube, wrote in the description.

As the branch gives Q-Ball a quick lesson in gravity, a voice can be heard shouting a profanity and then asking the immortal question: "911 or not?"

We don't know if anyone called 911. But we do know what happened to the guy.
