Have never lost steering but I did have a front wheel on the tractor come off as I was making a turn with the brush hog on the back. I learned a person can drive a tractor back to the barn with just 3 wheels as long as they don't turn the wrong direction.

Seems like recalls are the accepted norm now. Didn't GM just have a giant recall?
 
My truck had a little wiring harness thing, sorry I don't know what the name of it was, melt once. The part was $160 dollars. I took the truck to a shade tree mechanic, he picked up the part, and charged me $10 to put it on. A year or two later my truck was recalled for the problem. The letter said if I had already made the repair to bring the receipt to the dealer. I did, the receipt was scrawled on piece of carbon paper. It looked about like what you would get at a mom and pop reatraunt. The receipt was for $170 some odd dollars. The dealer said they couldn't honor the receipt. Kinda insinuated that I could easily have just wrote the receipt myself. I hate to get mad, so most of the time I just don't. I left, and filed the receipt and the letter at home with the rest of my farm records. A couple years later when it was time to buy a new truck, I went to the same dealership. Made the best deal I could, and went to the little office to pay for it. Just as we got to the nitty gritty of writing the check, I pulled out my receipt, and letter, I told them I hate to sound like a jack ass, but we would need to settle my dispute over the harness before I paid. They knocked the $170 some odd dollars off the price of the truck. I know that is a long drawn out story, but I just couldn't let it go.
 
Reminds me of one time when father in law came to visit, had a few beers and wanted to check out hubby's shiny new riding mower. He forgot what controls were what when he wanted to quit. With it still throttled up and the deck running, he put it from forward into reverse and then back again. Popped the front wheels off the ground. So he just went back to driving, I guess he was gonna drive it around until it ran out of gas. Hubby saw what happened, intercepted him and throttled it down, put in neutral, etc. FIL grinned sheepishly and said, it bucks don't it? That mower ran for years, the abuse didn't seem to hurt it. It was a Monkey Wards brand, but I don't know who actually made it.

Cause I am just a$$ enough that I would have bought the truck from somebody else and then drove it to the original dealer just to show them the result and tell them why they missed my sale.

I did just that. Twice. Salesman comes out. I don't have a beef with him. "I want to talk to the guy in the shop who refused to fix the problem he created......." "Tell your manager that he is still on your payroll."

insane how people don't use their head if they have no brakes
 
Older brother bought a mower with the hydro drive peddle on the right side. Mowing close to a deep ravine started to stop the tractor and mashed the hydro peddle and went over the side. Lucky he was not hurt. He called and said he thought he had a senior moment.
