following along Diesel Beef's post about when dinner...

My older son would gladly eat cereal three meals a day. My younger son wants real food and lots of it. It's easier in the summer when we can grill a lot of stuff and then eat that for a couple of days. My son calls it "the Meat Out".

Here lately it's been squash and tomatos with everything but the cereal.

I eat cereal for breakfast every morning, whether I'm hungry or not, because it will save me from caving in before lunch. If I eat breakfast it will save me from eating those dam doughnuts that are always hanging out at the teacher's lounge. I do sneak one on occasion, though. I try to eat the whole grain stuff, although I prefer kid cereal. It just doesn't stick with you, though, and I have a questionable digestive system, so whole grains it is.

Now, there are chocolate cheerios and those are some good eating. Like Count Chocula without the marshmellows. And whole grain... good stuff. Multi grain cheerios are good too. Just sweet enough and flavorful. I don't like regular cheerios.

Speaking of Cheerios, next time you're at the store, count how many types there are. The most hubs and I have ever seen is 11. Yep, ELEVEN different kinds of Cheerios. That kills me.

I would rather have cereal as an after supper snack......
but my wife insists I eat Ice cream so i suffer through it.....
I can not do cereal for breakfast becasue I am hungry as soon as I drop the spoon back into the bowl and put it into the sink. I don't know why but it just will not stick by me and seems to enhance my hunger.

My typical breakfast is sausage biscuits. wife frys up a pound and puts it in a baggie and I make two sausage and cheese biscuits most mornings and heat em in the toaster oven.

Try the chocolate ones. Best. Cheerios. Ever. My son was in a pout yesterday because we'd run out and had to settle for the multi grain.

I only goes to the store on Fridays.

Menus can get pretty creative around about Thursday night.

Here lately its been just too hot to eat. Been making meals out of watermelon mostly. Sure got a scare the other morning when I thought I had some major colon problem though.

If it is just me I have been known to open a can of Campbell's cream of mushroom soup and eat it cold out of the can.. In my younger days I could last on cigarettes and a couple of beers.

If hubby is home I am expected to have something somewhat edible for him so I will usually try to plan ahead and make a big pot of something like cream of broccoli/cauliflower/leak jalapeno cheddar soup , or beef vegetable soup, or his favorite 5 cheese ravioli with spicy italian sausage in a oyster mushroom/portobello mushroom tomato sauce.I can also usually pull out a few horderves from the freezer and heat them up if I am desperate. The very least I have gotten away with is peanut butter sandwiches with Gouda and sambal, this only happens if I am totally unprepared and completely overwhelmed with work/chores.

If we had a family I imagine I would have to start using a slow cooker so at least the kids would get a hot decent meal everyday.

HD, even without rug-monkeys running around the slow cooker/crockpot is a GREAT way to make a meal for later. Even for just the 2 (or 3 with Nikki) of you!
I can't make any claims for being an awesome cook but I never have any complaints about my crockpot meals! :)

You are right LAR, I should dig mine out of the pantry and put it to work and Nikki will be in doggy heaven. Hubby was supposed to leave on a job today so it got postponed until tomorrow so I have decided on stuffed blue cheese hamburgers with a salad for dinner tonight. The stuffed burgers are to die for, especially with fresh sauteed mushrooms ..

Great minds think alike.. :P :lol2:

Some foods taste the same whether hot or cold. Cream of mushroom soup...never though of it, but yeah. Another one is Chef boy arde. When i was single, and working all hours in the city, that was my choice of eating...right out of the can.
Now, that stuff is not cheap!

For an extra kick, spoon it out on corn chips. Do NOT try running your tongue around the inside of the can to get every last drop though, kinda embarassing trying to explain to the ER Dr why he has to sew the front 1/3 of your tongue back on.....
