Not exactly a beginner, but not sure where to put this.

I've been using Hudson float valves for years on all my troughs, with pretty good results other than there being no real good way to mount them. Over the last year or so I've been having problems with the valves, either not turning off, or not turning on. Hudson sent me a bunch of repair kits and I installed them, but they did not have any effect on the problem. I tried them on both new valves that did not work and some older ones that did in fact need repairs.

Anybody have any experience with these? Am I missing something? Hudson says they are not having any problems at all as far as they know.

Just found a mounting kit that seems like it'll work at Valley Vet Supply. Now if I can just get the floats to work, all will be well.

I have one of the mount kits from Valley Vet and it works good. Or it seemed to. I threw the one new Hudson vlave away that I had bought. Havingto dismantle it every day or 2 and it still not shutting off afterwards and I pitched it and went back to the the Little Giant float valves.
 
I have used the Hudson valves quite a bit. I have had the Hudson valve stop cutting off, took it apart, did the repair kit and they still leak. It seems if I never cut the water off to one they will not have problems. When I cut the water off on one and then go to turn it back on, it doesn't want to cut off after filling the trough.
 
Thanks. I thought maybe I was the only one having a problem with them. They must have changed something in the design or something. Like I say, I'd been very satisfied with them for many years.

What I was running into was intermittent problems with them. Some times they'd work for months and months just fine, and suddenly I'd have either a dry trough or a major run-over. I've even had a couple of them fix themselves after quitting on me. Go figger.
 
I was having the same problem, float valve would work good for a while and then the water trough would overflow. I bought a little in-line water hose pressure regulator at Wal-Mart for about $5 and it solved my problem. Cuts the line pressure down to 25 PSI. The pressure reduced was intended for use in drip irrigation systems and is found in that area of the store.
