Hired an AI tech to breed a group of 10 cows this year, have been wanting to try it for a couple of years. I did all the prep work and he showed up at daylight this morning to do the breeding, was amazed at how quickly he was in and out. It was a neat experience and glad I at least gave it a try. Hopefully I get some calves on the ground next Sept. Used Hoffman Bar None and Right Time 7861, thanks @wbvs58 for the info and background on these.

Question, do AI tech’s expect a tip? I’m big on tipping if I get good service, this guy was great to work with so I gave him some extra cash. But worried I might not have given him enough.

Congrats on your first AI experience. I've never been tipped for doing the breeding itself but I have had goodies given later when breeding results were good. If your AI tech is treated well and happy he is likely to come back again even if it's not on his schedule next time you need him.
 
When I was breeding for Select Sires, I was never tipped... did not expect it... I was paid by the company... A couple of farms gave me garden produce occasionally... and cookies or things at the holiday season...
Today, it seems tipping is more expected than appreciated as an extra thank you. It irks me to go someplace, to pick up a "to go" order, and have them actually ask if I want to add a tip..... or have people look at you expecting a tip for something that is supposed to be part of their job description...

Hope your first AI experience is a good one and is a repeat for you next year. hope they were all showed standing heat before breeding. I have never tipped if I needed a tech to breed something for me. usually don't have cash on me when he shows up but do usually let him know if the cow/heifer settled or not. An experienced tech can usually get in and out quickly since they do it practically every day.
 
So have had a couple cows cycle after the AI process, which was expected. Have 1 in particular that is cycling again today, she definitely cycled on 1/9 and the bull was well aware on 1/9. Could the AI process have done something to hinder her taking? I guess the bull could have been running low on 1/9 as well if he was covering multiple?

Cow is 10 years old, raised here and never missed a calf. Picture of her with a calf from a few years ago.

unlikely. From your first post it sounds like he knew what he was doing. AI error might prevent a cow catching to the AI breeding... but only significant damage would have any impact on a later breeding. It's very unlikely that a trained operator would cause significant damage in a healthy cow.
The area where that gets thorny though would be those cases that get preg, possibly even cycle while bred, then lose the embryo. That definitely does delay breeding.
Synchronised cows? 2 - 3 returns out of 10 bred would be a good result but can be more returns on a synchronised group compared to natural heats, or if not all had calved long enough. And a bull should manage 2 - 3 cows at a time, if not otherwise pressurised.
