You all talk about the Obama phone, but do you know that there really isn't one? We were offered a lifeline phone when my husband became eligible for social security 12 years ago. I called to cancel our land line and the company noted that he was eligible for it and offered it so that we would continue the service. It is not subsidized by government money.

The program was started in 2008 when Bush was in office.

I have a "little" to do with telecommunications. Not enough to know what I'm talking about. I think there is a large trust fund to pay for the free phones. Who put the money in the pot, and how long it will last IDK.

Actually the phone business started under Ronald Reagan and only applied to land line phones, Then under President Bush it was expanded to the cell phones. I think that the phone company owned by Mexican Slim really promoted the cell phones being his company really designed a plan that was strictly for the cell phones.

I've read that before too. Its buried in one of the taxes in your phone bill.

I'm glad the car thing is not true. Save me from having to move to Florida and learn to fly a big jet airplane.
