First "real" cattle sale...

sounds like fun times I was hoping i could go to that sale to meet you and to check the cattle out. Did E.B. say those udders looked good ? What I like is EB'S sales they make them pregnancy check the cattle before he will sell them or atleast he use too.

I would estimate he weighed 1800lbs. He was no small bull. It was just not what people wanted. I also noticed, that of all the bulls, he seemed to have the best disposition...very relaxed...I wish I had a picture. Anyway, I am no expert, but I have seen a lot worse looking bulls in my brief time. He actually sold near the end of the auction...I stayed till then because I wanted to see how much he brought...

That's a shame when that happens, I've seen that around here a few times in the last little while. I would have kept it rather than letting it go below market value.

He was and is worth $1.10 a pound. If he sold for that someone got screwed bad.
 
D&C, I dont even remember the first sale I went to but im sure it was at least 50 years ago. Some weeks I have went to as many as 5 a week but never less than 1. I buy almost every week so I am involved in each sale.That being said I still see things I dont understand. Calves to cheap, Cows way, way too high. In my area and in yours also I think many are part time farmers so the fact that they like or dont like an animal may play more into the price that actually what the animal is worth. Go and have fun.
Where is your market? What town is in your county. I have been east as far as Siler City stockyard but pretty sure you are east of that.
 
Slaughter bull don't have a color difference. Breed makes a difference but not much these days. The days of buying a cheap sale barn bull to take home is over for now. 3way is right that bull should have been at least a dollar a pound.
 
I would advise you to join your local livestock association. Maybe you wont ever sell with them as a group but there are lots of advantages otherwise. I am president of out local association, the dues are $20 per year. This year I was able to negotiate $5 per ton off feed cost at one dealer, $20 off on Ivomec at another dealer, and still had money for a Rib eye steak dinner, pocket size record book, and Livestock Association Association hat for each member. So by joining the member could actually make money by saving money.
I bought my last cattle trailer (Wilson) from the guys at the Siler City stock yard. Picked it up there on sale day. Very impressed with them and their stockyard.
