Got my first NV hog last night. I scanned a couple fields and a couple feeders with no luck. As I was driving through the property a couple black figures popped in the headlights and crossed the scendaro at about 75 yds in front of me. Immediatly I killed the truck, eased the door open, turned the scope on, and got a good rest. There was probably 20 hogs running around back and forth in the scope.

Good news is I got one... bad news is Im pretty sure they were heading for my freshly disked johnson grass field. The scendaro runs parallel to to the field with probably 80-100yds of heavy brush between the two.

That is a Pulsar N750 digital NV scope. Probably one of the best bang for the buck NV scopes out right now. I have been very impressed. You can use it in the day time like a regular scope, it takes AA batteries, and is very user friendly. Its like looking through a black and white tv but it very easy to see what is what.

The gun is a Rock River Arms 5.56. I tried out some 62gr Hog Bomb bullets from Academy. Its a 62gr Barnes TSX bullet. They did a great job on this hog. Its was DRT.

The suppressor is AAC for a 6.8mm. Its kind of neat because you put these ratcheting muzzle breaks how ever man guns you want and you can move it from gun to gun real easy.

A hog like that is pretty much coyote bait.. they stink.. those wild hogs are nasty animals.

Nice large pig. I haven't seen many that size, but I have walked down into a pasture to see our steel box trap sprung, but with no pig in it. The pig had rolled the trap 10 feet and torn a hole in the steel mesh that I could easily fit through.
 
I'm out of the gun loop. Can just anyone have a night vision scope? I always heard here in Ky it wasn't allowed. Never checked on it, so I don't know.

I searched it real quick... from what I read you can not hunt with night vision in Ky... artificial light... e-calls... and the list goes on and on and on... Wait until yall get hogs. They might rethink that.
 
Maybe they do have hogs. But they don't make a big deal out of them like the folks in TX. do. Helicopters and AR style rifles with suppressors, and night vision scopes are not the best way to get rid of hogs. In Texas they are turning killing hogs into a sport. I kill hogs because I don't have any use for them, just like wild dogs and coyotes.

You can make dam near anything a "sport" as you call it. This at least has some benefit as well as sporting entertainment. When something has become such a nuisance as to have a bounty on it I figure you kill them anyway you can.

... and what is the "BEST" way?

The reason we, TEXAS, makes such a big deal is because we have the largest population in the US. Our particular area in Texas is one of the densest populations around. Between the river bottoms, farm land, cover, and decent size properties our numbers are through the roof. When you see 60+ hog packs... you have to do what ever it takes to keep up with the reproduction rates.

Are you against people who rodeo turning cattle work in to a sport?
 
Nice setup. Sounds to me you are making lemonade out of the lemons. Only improvement I can see you need is a belt fed weapon. ;-)
