First calf this year

Finaly first calf borned. Verry beautiful girl :) Her weight was 104lbs when she born. Now she is 5 days old and tries to be the main worker in barn :lol: Verry friendly- almost like a dog.

Calf sure looks red to me. Which means that mom carries the red gene color and so does dad. The calf may get darker but unless the color is really off on these photos red will always stay red.

i will bet the calf turns black by weaning.

The calf will turn black, look at the darker shade around the eyes. I've seen more than a few calves like that turn black or as close to black as is possible without being truly black.

Mom is black BB cross cow( 50%BB, 50% dairy), dad is white(silver),I've posted photos of him in this forum ~2.5 months ago.

Just took one like that to the sale barn. Was mostly red when it was born and all of a sudden it was black with a few red highlights.

That's how she looks now, 6 months old. :)

On the left she and her dam( just head).

At winter she'll be black, just now she still has some dark brown hair.
