Fires

We have two fires burning near the ranch. Sorry for the confusion for my southern friends but I'm tired and you can do the math.
This one started in a remote area east of us. Wildfire Services have done virtually nothing with it because of inaccessibility. It is 715 hectares in size and 12 km from home. Picture taken yesterday afternoon, today visibility is about 500 to 1000 yards.


This one started a day later in a more accessible area and has grown to 2500 hectares as of this evening. We sent our cat to it today. It is approximately 20 south of us. Photo was also taken yesterday.

I hate hearing a fire is inaccessible.
In Gatlinburg TN a few years ago a fire started on the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. The park let it burn for several days because according to them it was inaccessible. It exploded and burned a lot of homes and businesses. After that 2 young people were investigated and they had videos of themselves setting the fire along a popular hiking trail. So it seems it was accessible to hikers but not firefighters.

So it seems it was accessible to hikers but not firefighters.

A fire kicked off at Padre Island National Seashore on the 22nd when I was there fishing. It's still burning I think. It's in all that marshy, coastal grass. As it burns up to areas they can access they are boxing it in. They have been lighting some back burns and stuff to it as weather allows.

It is an island though.

Still going. Lots of ups and downs, SW winds yesterday caused fire to south of us to jump the guard and run 20 miles east to the south of us. So far we haven’t lost any cattle or infrastructure but others have. We need rain or snow that isn’t in the forecast.
