Our son is a member of the volunteer fire department in his little town. Last night they had an open house, showed off their equipment, fed everyone and entertained the kids.
We went thru some real heavy rain on the way up there, at first we were afraid the event would be a bust.

But the rainstorm didn't extend that far north, it was fine once we got there. They have a nice big firehouse and are constantly working to upgrade the equipment.

Their newest biggest truck. I think this is the first piece of brand new "big" equipment they have been able to acquire.

It even has a generator built in, there is lighting all over the truck and 110 receptacles:

The new truck is a "water buffalo" because of how much water it can pump.

The other truck is apparently a devil.

Their brush truck is new, too.

The old one is still in service. Our son says this is a tough old truck and there are many stories of its adventures.

More equipment.

That's our son helping some of the kids knock down "flaming" bowling pins with a low pressure hose.

He soaked this one ornery kid. That's my boy.........

The "home fire hazard demonstration" trailer came down from St. Joseph.

All in all, it was a pretty fun way to spend a Saturday evening.

Th-th-th-that's all folks.

We are fortunate to have an excellent volunteer FPD in our town manned by a great group of guys. They also have an open house every fall that we go to every year. The kids used to love it and now the grandkids love it. Thanks for the pictures and give your son a big "thank you" for me.

Cool pics. Thanks for sharing.
just curious is their new brush truck (Type 6) got a diesel in it or a gas motor?
Our fire company just got a new type 6 from the DNRC and it is a F-550 with the V-10 in it. It got 9 miles to the gallon with an empty water tank.
We had the oldest truck in the fleet. The fire chief was the only person who could get the pump to prime and that normally took about an hour.

Our other truck is an '03 F-350 with the 6.0 diesel and a six speed manual. Special made fire bed on it.

I didn't notice if the new brush truck was diesel or gas. But I would think they would want diesel. When they have to get off road, seems like the diesel would be better, no catalytic converter to chance starting a fire in tall grass or dry brush. There is a lot of tall growth around here.

We are proud of our son for joining the department and serving his community. They were tickled to have him - he works nights so he can run calls during the day when they have the hardest time getting enough manpower together. He doesn't get much sleep some weeks!

so glad to see they have all that equipment to fight fires.an glad they have some1 that knows how to use it.

Nice pictures, I started out as a volunteer in texas and then became a paid FF for the next 35 years. A great job with great people.

Yes it did look like a great day out, thanks for sharing with us, I like the look of those Fire engines they are different to ours. You must be very proud of your Son.
