Ok, after purchasing some stockers ...we realized one of those "steers" has one nut left....I was going to finish him out same as others, but a neighbor made a comment to me that you can't finish a "stag" out like a normal steer. I nodded my head like I understood, but couldn't wait to get on the boards here and get some input from the knowledgable people here! Any comments? Advice? :help:

I finished several stags last night. Stag beers that is.

Sorry, just had to throw that out there.

As far as finishing him differently, I have not ever heard of any different finishing process for heifers, steers or stags. As far as I know they all require the same types of feeds.

We seem to get one every few years and have always finished them out with the rest of the pen. I don't know what you would want to do differently.

I guess I thought what the neighbor that made the comment was getting it was that it would take longer to finish off....(?)

I am sure your neighbour is a nice person, but I think he is perhaps talking a bit more than thinking.

This animal will finish off just fine - no probs - do what you normally do.

We did a Herf last year - he had both of his hanging and had no trouble. Tasted just fine and finished in the pen with the rest of the boys.
