Does anyone have a finish mower that they like? I don't know what brand to get. Thanks for any help.
 
We've got a Buhler/Farm King 6' rear discharge pull behind. This is my only reference to a finish mower, but so far I have been happy with it. This mows 5 acres minimum once per week, most times twice per week. Just about a month ago, we had one bearing go out, we replace the blades every spring, and this spring we put the new belts on it (2) and it has now been in operation for 5 years.

When we were looking, Woods is the brand that everyone said was the best, but the price was about 2.5 times more than this one.

BTW this deck is on a MF 35 diesel absolutely no prob's with horsepower or pto speed or 3pt lift.

I shopped around for a while before I settled on a Landpride mower. I have one of their reverse rotation tillers and felt it was a good solid machine. I feel I made the right choice when I settled for their finish mower. I wasn't wrong!

I have a Howse 7 foot bush hog and it is a piece of crap.
They use nonstandard parts that you can only get through them and they charge about 4 times the price for them.
I replaced the top bearing in the gearbox about 6 months ago,
it cost about $80 for it from them, and that was the only place to get it. The bearing has gone out again already.

This is the last piece of Howse equipment that I will ever buy.
 
Howse has a history of using bearings not worth the crap they're made of. I've heard this type of story many times over.

One of the brands that are great til' they break...

Another to stay away from is King Kutter. Bout the same as a Howse product.
 
I'm glad to see this area isn;t the only one that thinks that Howse is the Yugo of farm equipment.

Ok Guys, beat me up on the Howse equipment if you wish. For my experience with the Howse equipment I have been satisfied. They have presented be no problems. I on their heavy duty disc, rotary cutter (bushog), finish mower and auger.

The only problem I had is with the bushog cutter it would shear the 1/2" pin when cutting grass knee high. I called the place I bought if from and he drove 20 miles that afternoon to check it out. After looking at it, he told me to give him a few days to look into it and check with Howse. 5 days later he called and wanted to know when he could come replace some parts. The next morning he shows up with his helper and replaced the entire gearbox. The new gearbox had the slip clutch the old one didn't. It's been 3 years now and I'm still using the same shear pin and believe me I have cut trees as big as your forearm.

Glad you are a satisfied customer! You are a rare breed.

The difference between a Gear Box with a slip clutch VS. a Shear Pin are like night and day in durability and what you'll cut.

I just hope they stand by the life of their slip clutch gear box.

you must have a pretty good dealer down there.That's 9/10ths of the battle. ;-)
 
I am on the fence with Howse, so far... we bought a 7' brush hog, 2nd season to use it and the slip clutch went flying in about 10 different directions...(cutting grasses) it was expensive to replace $263 for a whole new pto shaft slip clutch assembly, the only way I could get it.... I must say tho the new clutch assembly is worlds better than the original one.... so far so good.

I've got a landpride brush mower I bought a bit over two years ago. I beat the crap out of it and have been very satisfied with it. I just recently broke a snap ring in the pinion shaft, but I take the blame for that. The book says its gool for up to an inch material, and I was wacking considerably larger stuff.
