Finally Got Some Calves to Market

Trudged around through the mud yesterday and finally got them loaded and out of here before the additional rain we're having today.
2- Black Bulls 610 and 660 lbs. each brought 228.75 per lb.
1- Black Heifer "Effie", the one who had problems standing with constricted tendons that I had posted on CT. She weighed 495 and brought 235.00 per lb.
1- Red Heifer weighed 355 and brought 288.00 per lb.
1- Black Heifer with a little chrome around the flank and legs weighed 490 and brought 217.00 per lb.
1- Red Heifer with Horns weighed 540 and also brought 217.00 per lb.
1- Yellow Heifer weighed 440 and brought 242.00 per lb.
1- Black Bull weighed 505 and brought 245.50 per lb.
1- Gray Bull with Horns weighed 495 and brought 266.00 per lb.
1- Purebred solid black Simmental bull weighed 465 and brought 294.50 per lb.
Just thought I would give a sale report. This was in Guthrie, Ky.

Sound like pretty good prices. When the ground dries enough I need to get some gone.

That was a nice payday for you. When you add up what they brought as a total could you have imagined 10 years ago that a group like that could bring that much?

Nice prices, sale head #s have been down most weeks here since January due to weather, just don't dry out around here until it warms up

Head count here was 740 for the sale. Yeah I'm happy with the payday. Had thought a couple might have brought a little more, but also a couple brought more than I expected. The gray bull with horns brought 20 1/2 cent more per lb. than the 505 lb. polled black bull whom was just 10lbs. heavier. As far as 10 years ago, no I wouldn't have ever thought I be closing in close to a 3.00 per lb. 400-500 weight bull calf. I remember hoping for $500 dollar for each calf not long ago now they are double that and better. I'm just happy our herd is built and I'm selling instead of buying.

I have a pen of 11 bulls and steers mixed that I am feeding corn screenings to. I have thought about selling them when the screenings are gone. I have three more wagons and that should last me into late May. The steers would be around 800 lbs then and people could be looking for one or two to put onto their small lots to raise out for personnel beef. These are extremely gentle and would be perfect for that.
