finally cutting hay

well it finally got dry enough to start cutting hay.the baler man is laying down 40acs of waist deep hay.he said it should make between 150 an 200 rolls.mind you he is running a 605 vermeer baler.but it could make more than that.if it makes 200 bales wont have to bale much next year.

I got three fields on the ground right now waiting on it to dry it is so dang thick giving it an extra day.

same here burno i figure itll take an extra day or so to cure since its so thick.right now we are selling the extra hay for $32 a bale.gonna have enough hay this year.

We're glad to have the sunshine for a change..........dang coastal is so long, it makes 30' ropes dragging behind the tedder..... :shock: I'm thinking market hay ropes insted of hay rolls.... :lol:

I am cutting some costal and bahia now. The costal is thick and about 24 inchs high. No seed head on the costal. The blades on the bahia is around 18 inches and not to many seed heads either. This is a place that had a good stand of crimson and then a good stand of apache. I let both of the clovers seed. Not much choice with the rain since May.

called the baler man tonite an told him to cut some more where he was.an he gose not cutting anymore till i get up what hay is down.will end up cutting another 20acs.so wont be short of hay.already sold 80 rolls standing in the field an another 100 rolls give or take.

sounds like your going to make alot of hay off that field.this year if hay was down in the rain it got flooded.thats why weve waited so long to have it cut.

Yeah, I understand that. I had to wait this long to get rain to make the grass grow. Now, I have to wait for it to stop long enough to get it cut. Nothing new as you know. We just do what we have to do. Heck it may give time to finish that mower I'm working on.

Yeah, I understand that. I had to wait this long to get rain to make the grass grow. Now, I have to wait for it to stop long enough to get it cut. Nothing new as you know. We just do what we have to do. Heck it may give time to finish that mower I'm working on.

your doing a nice job on that mower.glad your getting the rain to get a cutting of hay.if you dont get to use that mower this year.you can use it next year.

I should have heeded your post today. Only a 30 percent chance of rain, so I spent the day cutting this field. As luck would have it, it didn't rain till I finished. :roll: I doubt it hurt it but still, 30%. Oh well, this is the dog days.

Yeah with the lack of rain for so long earlier this year, I don't want to risk loosing any. I still may but I am going to try to time it right.

jog hope you can get the hay up before it gets wet.people close to me have had hay down 3wks.an it getting rained on most everyday.an they would finally get it baled.thats why we waited till we had a week of sun to turn the baler man loose.
