I'm leaving for the Final Four in about an hour. Been to countless basketball, football and baseball games over the years, but never a big event like this. Got the tickets almost a year ago. I figure it'll never be closer to me, I love college basketball, and I'm not getting any younger, so what the heck.
 
Have a good time, Van. I like college sports also, especially the NCAA championships. Players are playing hard. I hope you see some good games. I'll be watching TV for someone who looks like a VanC! Jim
 
SPEND MONEY. Indiana appreciates your sales tax. Also your food and beverage tax--dedicated to paying for that stadium.

I got to go in 1970 when Purdue lost to UCLA and Lew Alcindor in Louisville.

From your posts I know you as a man who appreciates the legends of sport so I suggest a drive 2 miles north from Lucas Oil Stadium to Butler Fieldhouse, just for a look.

Well I sure had a good time. Quite a spectacle. Met lots of fine people from all over the country. Most everyone at an event like that seems to be in a good mood, even after their team gets beat. I'll be back tomorrow night at the championship game, and the place will be rocking for Butler. Their fans seem to realize that this thing is probably a once in a lifetime event, and they're making the most of it.

Jim- It'll be hard to pick me out among 70,000 plus but I can narrow it down for you. Take a good look at Brad Stevens, Butler's head coach. He's young, good-looking, energetic, and smart. Now look for someone just the opposite of that and it might be me.

John- I've actually had the privilege of seeing a couple of games in Hinkle Fieldhouse a few years ago. A friend of mine was teaching at Butler at the time and we went to a couple of games. Great place. Only basketball venue I've seen that might be as good was the old UW Fieldhouse in Madison. I love the old places where you can feel the history the minute you get near the place.
 
What a great final, just the reason I love college sports. The kids play so hard, they are still grasping at the golden ring. I was hoping Butler could pull it off, and to their credit they almost did.... against a long time national power house. Butler is a young team I'm sure they will be back next year.

How does a 12yr old kid get a head coaching job at teh Division 1 level? He might be 15 or 16. :lol:

I'm still kicking myself in the rear. Let my wife talk me into watching a movie and completely forgot about the game. I have always loved Duke but would loved to have seen Butler win it all. Did get to watch UCON girls put a good whipping on Baylor girls. They are awesome.

I'm not that much of a basketball fan, but I am a Kim Mulkey fan.

I can understand that. ;-) She has done one heck of a job and about 75% of the team members are freshmen so they'll be stout for a long time. She draws about twice the salary of the Baylor football coach I think. They like her too.

No doubt about it. What a fantastic experience!! Having a home town team in there, especially a "cinderella", made it that much better. Most of the Michigan State and West Virginia fans turned their tickets in and left town after they lost on Sat., and most of those tickets were snatched up by Butler people. The place was loud on Sat., but last night the place was LOUD. Saturday I just sat back and enjoyed the experience and the games. Monday I really got caught up in it. Can't remember the last time I saw a team play defense like Butler does. Outstanding. They shot 35% for the tournament and still came within one possession of winning the national championship. Anyone that follows college basketball knows how amazing that sounds.

I figure the whole thing cost me about $350 with about half of that the cost of the tickets. Well worth it.
 
On TV the game seemed to be very physical. I am a Duke fan but in this case I had to pull for Butler and they almost did it. The desperation shot at the end was very close to banking in. It was one of the best games I've ever seen. Wonder how many people were thinking about the movie "Hoosiers" before and during the game? Lucky you,there in person.
