This is the first year in 8 that I didn't put ryegrass out. we don't usually get enough rain from November through May to make it grow with a darn. This year, it would have really taken off with all the rain. :bang: this is the wettest winter in recent history.

we got rye in but hasnt done anything , in fact I have some they we still havent grazed , it has been brutally cold for NC this winter. we plant a mix of abruzzi rye and rye grass,usually feeds them pretty good, but not this year.

Ouch. There's a positive from this rain though. If we don't get another frost or freeze it may kick off green up with a bang. It's a good kind of rain too, slow steady drizzle

You guys that say your rye has died/struggling, are you talking cereal rye or rye grass? Here, cereal rye is about impossible to kill. We've had it under ice,water,drought, everything and it seems to live on. We even had a small 2 acre field once where we fed the cows in the spring, they chewed it off in a hour and trampled mudded that paddock up real bad, 2 weeks later it was green and growing again :? Wheat/triticale on the other hand is pretty touchy on temps and ice cover here.

The rye grass will come on. It is not spring yet. Just been lucky in years past to have winter grazing. Give us a week of warm weather and it will take off.
