Being from Central Texas I don't know much about Fescue/Orchard/Clover. Have an opportunity to purchase 4x5 bales @ $88/delivered from Alabama. What little I can find on CT about orchard and fescue are that they may not be palatable to a cow down here. I also read that Orchard grass, like most other grasses becomes less palatable after it's headed out. I wouldn't know orchard or fescue if I stepped in it so any information would be helpful and appreciated.
 
Google fescue grass and orchard grass and you should gets tons of hits that will show you the seed heads for each. That's the easisest way to tell. Neither of them have the obvius "W" that signifies Brome
 
What about the palatability? I read an old post of yours that said it took your cows some time to adjust to it.

Palatability can be an issue but if they're hungry the will eat it. I would be more concerned with the possibility (kind of remote in hay) that the endophyte may cause some health issues. Mine love fescue but hate OG. This year for the first time they really go into eating WSG even though the've been exposed to it every summer for the past 5-6 years. This was a strange year with no rain for 2 months and exceptionally high temps so they couldn;t get any fescue that was growing in the WSG.
 
If cut at the right time and fertilized right, it will be good hay, if not, it will be junk that they will have to be forced to eat.
