Fertilizer question with drilling

I just drilled 50# acre of greengrazer 5 on 20 acre. Never soil tested but was curious on what and how much fertilizer i should put. .my next question is after cutting it the first time, is it a requirement to fertilize it again? It says to after each cutting but was wondering if it would come back for a second/third cutting or not. Thanks
 
50 pounds per acre of seed is a pretty thick stand. That will give you a a good fine stemmed hay.(for haygrazer) If your after hay. Fertilize it pretty heavy. Around here 150 pounds of nitrogen per cutting is about the normal. If you want head high grass with big wide leaves. That's what you need. In my observations. I've tried 75 pounds and got knee high. Haygrazer needs nitrogen. If you don't fertilize after cutting don't expect to get another one. You can graze the regrowth. Just be careful. You can graze it safely as long as you do your due diligence. Around here probably managed Haygrazer can yield 3 to 4 cuttings. And you should do a soil test. P and k are important to. And you really need to incorporate them in during the discing part of preparing the field.
 
Stop me if you;ve heard this question before, what did the soil test recommend for fertilizer at planting time?

Strikes me as "penny wise and pound foolish". But I'm a nut for wanting data to make decisions.

Really, 150 lbs N per cutting? I don't know what haygrazer is, but if it takes that much N I'd grow something different.

We used to plant Mega Green haygrazer and found that the break even point was between the 2nd and 3rd cutting. Each cutting was as tall as my head and major pain to get dry. If my memory is correct, we put out 400#/acre of 20-10-10 before the drilling and 400# /acre of 20-0-0 after each cutting. We stopped planting it because when there was enough rain to get 3 cuttings, we had enough grass elsewhere and when it didn't rain enough, it was cheaper to just buy extra hay.
 
I see. Haygrazer is a sorghum-sudan hybrid that has a smaller stem. I put 350# acre of 150# N, 100# each of potash and phosphorus. Maybe it will grow. :) I need to get that land tested, Dun. I agree. Meant to and time snuck up on me and forgot before it was time to drill this. Anyways, was just curious if it had to be fertilized after each cutting to regrow or if it would anyway.
 
Nitrogen pretty cheaper versus potash and phosphorus which I won't do after cutting. 450 a ton is what N is here. that's 5.50 a roll if it makes 80 rolls.
