Got this quote from the co-op how do these prices sound besides high? Are they in line with your area?

Coop quoted nitrogen an 450/t, potash at 620/t, dap at 585/t, urea at 505/t and Ag lime at 25/t
Spreading is 6/acre

What is dap? I'm kind of brain dead early this morning.

DAP is Diammonium Phosphate which is 18:46:0

UAN can be 28-0-0 or 30-0-0 or 32-0-0.
NH3 would be 82-0-0

If my maths is right, both products cost about the same if the maths was applied in $/kg of N but I'm not sure if that works same for you guys.
If I'm right, urea is 78cents per kg of N, nitrogen is 75cents per kg of N.
When you say $/t is that metric or imperial? how many lbs per t?

If you put fertilizer on to really saturated ground then it could wash off, not too good.

If the ground is wet and the temperature warm plus, then urea will release the nitrogen into the air. The rain washes the urea into the soil so as to prevent this happening. At low temperatures ie single digit Celsius, rain is not as important.

2000# in a ton.

UAN 32-0-0 would cost $.70 per unit
Urea 46-0-0 would cost $.54 per unit.
Using tncattles prices quoted.

NH3 locally is $.47 per unit.

There are many different grades of lime as well.
 
This seems like a good way to figure the cost. When purchasing fertilizer, figure your price by the pound of nutrient - not the ton of product.


Cost Per Ton of the Fertilizer divide by % Nitrogen per Ton of Fertilizer x 2,000= Cost per Actual Pound of Nitrogen


Does anyone do it this way?

Never seen a fertilizer rec in tons per acre before, that would be some terrible fertility.

I have fertilized pasture with cows on it with no problems. I would avoid big clumps and not put a huge amount at one time to an acre. All the ground I run cows on call for about a third of the nitrogen my hay meadows call for. I usually put down about 200lbs of total fertilizer at a time on pasture. Double that on hay meadows at a time provided the soil is wet and there is a good chance of rain. I think its a waste to put down fertilizer and not get a rain on it soon.

Some of us will never have use the #2000, we run metric.

I have been asked to apply in UNITS/acre, cwt/acre, #/acre, metric ton/acre, or metric ton/hectare :o

Some of us will never have use the #2000, we run metric.

2000# or 2204# neither will change the analysis, and thats the only thing that matters, along with price.


2204 makes for alot simpler math than 2000.
