Only thing I would do differently is I would use duct tape to attach.

You guys enjoy giving the guy guff for being creative. May not be the prettiest application, but it works. I've seen large rocks anchored to post to help anchor them. I've seen flat rocks, hubcaps, saucers on top of wood post to deflect water. Not everyone hires their fence work done by professionals!

I'd assume even less hang an engine block off a fence corner.

Especially an aluminum block. Errbody knows iron blocks make a better deadman. Lol
